Trung Nguyen Phin Coffee Filter 100 ml
- Vietnamese stainless steel coffee filter
The Trung Nguyen phin filter consists of a round perforated plate, that fits over a coffee mug or cup; a brewing chamber, that sits on top of the plate; a perforated insert that fits inside the chamber, to tamp the grounds down; and a cap to keep the heat in.
How to use the phin filter:
- Put 2-3 tablespoons of ground coffee into the filter and gently push the filter press inside.
- Place the filter on the cup and pour a small amount of hot water in (96-100°C) to moisten the coffee.
- Wait about 20 seconds.
- Fill the filter chamber with hot water and cover with the lid.
- Over the next 5 minutes the water should drizzle through the strainer.
- Remove the lid from the cup.
According to your personal preference, add condensed milk or sugar. Vietnamese coffee can be served hot or add ice if you want to serve as iced coffee.

My main complaint is with the upper screen. It's quite significantly too small for the chamber and so you'll always get a bunch of grounds coming up from underneath even with hard tamping and careful pouring.

Toimii hyvin, on helppokäyttöinen ja kahvista tulee hyvää. Kahvisuodattimen kapasiteetti on hieman pienehkö. Jos haluaa juoda vietnamilaisen kahvinsa kuumana on syytä käyttää lämmitettyä maitoa sillä kahvin valuttua kokonaan on se jo haaleaa.

Jeg havde store forventninger til denne vietnamesiske kaffeoplevelse, men blev desværre skuffet. Kaffen smagte ikke særlig godt – den var tør og havde en underlig kakaolignende eftersmag, som ikke passede til det, jeg havde håbet på. Derudover var det medfølgende phin-filter heller ikke særlig funktionelt. Det var svært at få en ordentlig brygning, og resultatet blev enten for tyndt eller for langsomt. Alt i alt en skuffende oplevelse.

We have tried the conventional coffee making here in europe as well as the machine one. We actually have a De longhi automatic machine. My wife has a vietnames friend and intoduced her with this type of coffee. So far, the coffee experience is nice and good!
